What needs to be done to ensure that interpreting runs smoothly?
Interpreters prepare thoroughly for each job. A successful interpreting requires that the interpreter receive relevant materials in advance (such as the company’s annual report, the agenda of the meeting, documents pertaining to the product which is going to be discussed, presentations, etc.).
For simultaneously interpreted conferences, the interpreter should receive in advance all speeches or papers to be presented at the conference, the agenda or script of the event. An adequate interpreting of read texts and video recordings cannot be ensured unless the interpreters receive all materials in advance.
It is also important to provide a good working environment for the interpreter (good sound, direct view of the conference room or a screen, fresh air free of cigarette smoke, drinks, etc.).
